A's Challenge class choices
A brought home his form last week to select classes for next year for Challenge. We took notes at an open house they held to see what he might want to take. Tonight we filled out the form. He had to rank each class from top to bottom choice. He will get 6 classes (out of the 16 offered).
His top choices:
Medieval Time Traveler: Interested in King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table? Travel back in time and find out what real knights had to endure? Middle Age customs are sure to intrigue you!
R.M.S. Titanic: Investigate the history of the Titanic, her sinking, the discovery of her wreckage as well as facts abut icebergs. We will use Titanic Crossing to take us on the adventure of a lifetime.
Animals on the Edge: Raise your paw, claw, flipper or wing and make your vote count for animals in danger. Find out why your animal is having difficulty staying on planet Earth.
Art Explorations: Explore art media through projects based on ther styles and methods used by well-known artists. We will draw, paint, weave, sculpt and use pastels to learn artists' techniques.
The Coral Reef: Learn about the plants and animals that live in the Coral Reef Ecosystem as well as the reasons for habitat loss while reaing The Cay.
Math Counts: Learn the secrets of solving word problems and other math skills, along with having fun being math detectives.
Entomology: Yuck! Why do we need bugs anyway? Investigate the habitats of insects, the role they play in our environment and how we couldn't live without them.
Cultural Traveler: Ever wondered why other cultures do, say and celebrate different things? Come explore various cultures through literature, art, cooking, and celebrations.
I made A put a math class in his top 6. He didn't really want to, but he really does well in math and he isn't being challenged in math AT ALL in the regular classroom.
At first A wasn't sure about entomology, but M talked about how cool a class it was when he took it in 3rd grade - they got to eat chocolate covered bugs even.
There were another 8 choices of classes, but most likely all 6 of his classes will come from this list of top 8. We won't find out until school starts which ones he got though.
